School On Roatan!

Written by Ellie

This is me doing home school in a hammock.  :-) We do a lot of things online like Khan Academy and Duolingo but we also read tons of books....in a hammock!  This one I read with Ethan and my mom and it took us a long time - 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. And did I mention, it took us a long time?

I loved home school but Ethan begged to go to school so we decided to do it for the last quarter of the year - from the end of March to the end of May.

This is our first day of school at Sandy Bay Alternative School.  This was definitely a good experience.

Every day, we walk down the road pass the cemetery,

We wait out on the fence for a bus,
(public buses are really just minivans with lots of seats crammed into it)

We catch it, and we're off to school!

We have lots of funny stories about riding the buses every day.  Ethan usually gets shmooshed in between two big islanders.

The first time we had to get around by ourselves and tell the bus driver in Spanish when our stop came up was scary but now we are pros.

This is Ethan playing Mancala with Steven.

Now, I could say I didn't have a favorite, but that would be a lie. Meet Azuri. A very lovable hugable person. Every day, he will sit by me at lunch and break. he loves to hug, play soccer (football), jump rope, and oh, did I mention he loves to hug?
Buddy Day!!! We are all paired up with someone younger than us. My buddy was Jensi (right) from 5th grade. We sat with her friend Jelani.

Thomaso!!!! A four-year-old Italian who only speaks Spanish and Italian. He is the cutest little boy in the whole school!!!!!

Sandy Bay Alternative School is an English school (K-12) but most of the kids speak Spanish too and they had Spanish classes so we learned a lot.
This was a game of twister on Buddy Day. It was an unusual version of the game...

Beanbag Toss!

Jump-rope is "the thing" to do in your spare time. everyone plays it, everyone loves it.
This is our teacher Ms. Marcia with her daughter staying for two weeks.

Selfie time with our friend Maia!

This is Malcolm - he and Ethan were the only boys in our class with 8 girls. It took everything we had to get a picture of him. He doesn't like them...

For the last day of school, we all went to a big field and played...

 KICKBALL!!!
Please let us know if you can't see these videos....

It was very fun and i asked after if anyone wanted to take a picture, and Maia was right up next to me in a flash.

Maia and Ingrid.... Julia is a little camera shy...
Then we went back to the school and hung out and had fun.
